Ever17 -the out of infinity- is a Japanese visual novel developed by KID, and second entry in the Infinity Series. It was released on August 29, 2002 for PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast in Japan, then later on May 16, 2003 for PC. An enhanced version with additional CGs was released on November 27, 2004 for PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast as Ever17 -The Out of Infinity- Premium Edition. The game received several releases during the next years, including a PlayStation Portable version with various quality of life improvements, and a brand-new remake on Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version, simply titled Ever17, featured an additional scenario, new CGs, 3D character models, a revamped soundtrack and a completely rewritten script.

An English version of the game was released by Hirameki International on December 20, 2005. The game was also officially released in Chinese, while fan translations in Russian, Vietnamese and Spanish are also available. An Italian fan translation is currently in the works[1].

Plot[]

The story begins on May 1, 2017 when a mysterious incident strikes the underwater amusement park LeMU, 51 meters underwater, trapping six people inside. The time limit is 119 hours, at the end of which the facility will implode and kill them all if they don't find a way out or fail to call for help.

Characters[]

  • Takeshi Kuranari - A 20 years old college student who came to LeMU with his friends. He loses track of them and finds himself stuck in an elevator when the incident occurs. A brave man that would do anything for his comrades, yet somewhat foolish at times. One of the two main protagonists.
  • Kid - An amnesiac teenager who doesn't remember anything prior to the incident. As his name is a mystery, everyone unanimously agreed to just call him "Kid". One of the two main protagonists.
  • You Tanaka - A cheerful 17 years old who works part-time at LeMU. She was tending to the Kid's amnesia when the incident happened.
  • Tsugumi Komachi - A mysterious young woman who doesn't mix well with the others. She was stuck in an elevator with Takeshi when the incident happened.
  • Sora Akanegasaki - A young woman working for LeMU as an Assistant Engineer. She monitors the facility from the inside and kindly assists the other victims of the incident.
  • Sara Matsunaga - A 16 years old girl and high school acquaintance of You. Somewhat of an odd girl, she claims to be a ninja. Only appears playing as Kid.
  • Coco Yagami - A 15 years old girl that acts much younger than she looks. Has a dog named Pipi. Only appears playing as Takeshi.

Manga[]

A manga adaptation covering the first part of the Tsugumi route in the Xbox360 version ran on Famitsu from 2011 to 2012.

Despite only retelling the beginning of the story, it still contains major end-game spoilers.

Drama CDs[]

Two Drama CDs covering events from after the game story, 2035 and After You've Gone, were released on November 18, 2002.

Music[]

The soundtrack was composed by Takeshi Abo. A series of character songs has also been released in 2003[2].
